WANT TO HELP US?

This is a list of our "little" needs. Many of them are of the "how to" sort, often related to computers.

Those related to our farming project are listed in www.rural-russia.narod.ru

In Staritsa we support the orphanage, the surgery department of the hospital, and the newspaper. Their needs are also documented in www.rural-russia.narod.ru

In general I try listing things that either cannot be procured here, or can be at the cost and trouble that is greater than the cost and trouble of buying them in the civilized world and bringing them over. Quality used children's items or written off medical supplies are an example of something that costs nothing at the source, is easy to transport, and acquired great value upon finding its target.

Acknowledgements are in the appropriate sections.

Most recent entries are listed first.

  1. Could someone do me an expressive line drawing of a barfing dog. Need that for the BACK button of the Misery Tourism sub-site. A photo that captures a typical stance may do. Or anything else that conveys the "back" idea in a manner appropriate for these pages.

  2. Who knows how, if such is at all possible, make text show automatically when people follow mailto: link from here? Do I have any degree of control over it? I discovered that  mailto:***@****.**?subject=xxxxxx does give xxxxx in the subject line. Can same be done with the text? I need it to remind people to provide certain pieces of information when writing, to write to appropriate addresses etc.

  3. LAPTOP COMPUTERS, ANY TYPE, AND MODEMS, ANY SPEED. Our own needs are fulfilled but we know a few good people in Staritsa who could use a good machine if it was just given to them.

  4. I need a set of Hebrew fonts for my computer (Windows XP).

  5. Old beaten up typewriter font

  6. Help wanted reviewing, editing this site. While I am grateful to those who point out links that don't work, spelling error, typos and other little things, what I am really looking for is conceptual criticism and contribution of well-written and infomative texts.

  7. ANYBODY GOING FROM OTTAWA TO RUSSIA?   I still have some things stuck there (papers and some horse tackle). Free airport pickup or whatever as my way of saying thanks.

  8. If you are on your way to Russia from the US, please pick up a couple of bottles of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap.

  9. Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol). K-Mart used to carry cheap stuff. Now I hear WallMart is the best source.

  10. Horse tacke of any kind wanted, especially saddles, in any condition.

  11. BABY ITEMS.. Olesya said to put the request for baby clothes back. She tried using Russian-made stuff and found that western hemisphere is vastly superior to the rest of the world in the art of making baby items. The kid was born Nov. 11, 2001 and it's a girl, so judge the size accordigly. I assume that if you are bringing over baby things you have an idea how big they are at each age.  If not, write to Olesya. Several baby items will mean our gratitude and a free airport  pickup or something equivalent as our way of saying thanks. Given the choice we prefer unisex because they are easier to pass along when we are done with them.

  12. Babysitter and more wanted. Read about it HERE  ...  CHECK OUT WWW.BABYSITTING.NAROD.RU

  13. If you are really keen on helping us in the business of bringing life to the Russian countryside, and know how to do it, please help us writing a good grant application. The nitty-gritty of things eats up the time and energy required to prepared a proper set of documents. A good place to see what's available is http://www.eurasia.overta.ru:8080/program_e.htm

  14. A wok, a real old-fashioned iron wok, with the bottom ring, cover, and spoon. The best I was able to find in Moscow was a tephlon-covered imitation..

  15. Old English dictionaries and related books, compiled in the era when people still thought in terms of right and wrong, beautiful and otherwise, and not of sales volumes and the ease of use. The ABC of English Usage, although not a dictionary, is an example of the style I look for.

  16. Peanut butter for Olesya. She recently developed an addiction for it.

  17. Muppets Show CD or VHS video for Mama and Mashka

Those who help us can expect anything from even more preferrential treatment to free services and access to our resources.
