PV: Contradiction is the stuff of life: high and low, positive and negative, chaotic and orderly... Remember, before you get too deep into self-righteous mode, that your own existence is based on a multitude of physical, chemical and electrical contradictions. The triumph of harmony and consistency and order is also known as the heat death of the universe.

  13. Getting drunk in Moscow: Shopping for booze, Pasha's favourites brands and sources, Russian style drinking establishments, staying safe, legal aspects of public drinking, hangover prevention and cure..

About this project

There are enough sites that are essentially tour agency brochures. Our aim, however, is to convey the sense of being here. You will see things beautiful and otherwise. Here we'll try to capture and document the essence of things rather than to make yet another catalogue of standard sights and attractions.

This project now has the status of a draft. In my shameless arrogance I have no qualm showing unfinished products of my work in the belief that the process and even errors I make may be of value to those who understand.

Unlike other parts of our site here we'll be making heavy use of graphics here.

Any help, from pointing out specific errors, to conceptual critique, to active participation in the project, is welcomed.

Want to keep me company?

I'd feel more comfortable and secure if someone clever and street-wise, with an understanding of the project, was to accompany me. It turned out that filming Moscow and Moscovites is not an easy task. I've been asked to put my camera away several times, and once these request was accompanied by a threat to break it. Comments to the effect that I'm a Mojahed looking for a place to plant a bomb are common. I would be good to have someone to back me up. Also, should shit happen, it would be fun to film it in the process. I am eagely waiting to hear from a sensible adventure seeker.

Complimentary resources

Фото-прогулкиIn Russian, with all the standard sites and attractions, which is exactly what I tried to avoid. Excellent images but no text and no maps..

An excellent collection of photos that aim at essences rather than surfaces: http://www.photographer.ru/galleries/show.htm?id=68&pic=5
