Recently (February 2002) a guest of ours thought it to be a convenient
thing to step on this not sure how to call it for filming the "Eternal Fire"
over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He was immediately approached by someone in the
uniform, plus someone else who presented himself as an interpreter. Together they
threatened the poor fellow with weeks in jail till he succumbed to psychological coersion
and gave them all cash he had on him. While, admittedly, this is not a good place to stand on, you don't get put in jail for inadvertently making mistakes of this sort. If in doubt, call your embassy, call me, always have my card on you, but don't ever encourage crooks by giving them your money. |
