The number of city people wishing to relocate to the countryside has been growing exponentially for the last five years. The most large-scale movement was inspired by a series of books The Ringing Siberian Pines of Russia (Anastasia) " by Vladimir Megre that are being published starting in 1996. These are among the most widely read books. One of the most significant ideas exposed in these books is that each family is to have an inheritable homestead on 1 hectare (2 acres) of land, which will serve as cells for ecological settlements. This movement is pushing for a law that would entitle each family to one hectare of land for lifetime rent without the right to sell it. Presently there are dozens and hundreds of centers and interest groups all over Russia.
The movement has its own dedicated fund, internet site (www.anastasia.ru), and an active forum.
There also are maling lists such as
All these organizations are in active communication between themselves.
In the summer of 2002 ecological community Grishino invites representatives of the movement and of GEN to meet at Grishino.
