The cliffs over the Kholokholenka river are consists of limestone that comes out in layers. Nice construction material, quite expensive in Moscow, but harvesting and transporting it takes a huge effort. You either need to cut into stone with expensive machinery, or use cheap slave labour that is no longer available in this land, or do it in a low-tech way. Romashka get the crude home-made cart right to the cliff, we pick stones, load them into the cart, and take them back to the dacha, 300 kg or 15-20 stones at a time.

At the end these become sidewalks. This in a photo from about 2002.

Since that we've learned to use empty bottles collected along the Volga river to as underlining for these sidewalks, with a bit of gravel on top, and a layer of limestone. Holds well for at least 5 years with no sign of deterioration.
