Objectives

To convince the interviewer (Canadian immigration officer) that you possess professional and personal qualities to become a successful immigrant. To demonstrate your ability to communicate in English and/or French. To express your understanding and acceptance of Canadian values. To show that you possess positive values of your own (presumably Russian) culture. To clearly and convincingly explain why exactly you want to relocate to Canada, and how your immigration to Canada will benefit your new country.

Lesson content

  1. Mock interview. Determination of your degree of readiness. Identification of specific problems.

  2. Design of your resume that will contain answers to all or nearly all professional questions you may conceivably be asked.

  3. Compilation of a glossary that will allow you to speak of your work easily and convincingly, and to really sound as a member of the declared profession.

  4. Editing or, if necessary, re-writing your recommendation letters.

  5. Development of answers to expected interview questions.

  6. Discussion of difficulties, problems, or fears.

  7. Practice and more practice

We'll need 4-6 sessions to significantly improve the degree of your readiness to successfully pass your immigration interview. Ability to speak English at an intermediate level is required before we can proceed with our work. You also need to have a good understanding of what your professional duties are.

Result

  1. Clear understanding of what the immigration officer expects to hear from a successful candidate.

  2. Samples of "correct" answers to general questions. Ability to use these as modules to compile natural-sounding answers on the fly.

  3. Clear and appropriately detailed description of your professional duties and achievements, using proper vocabulary.

  4. Clear diction, friendly and professional manner.
