A YOUNG ACCOMPLISHED SPACE RESEARCH ENGINEER
Date
To whom it may concern:
It is pleasure for me to write this letter of recommendation on behalf
of Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxx.
I have known Xxxxxxx since 1994 when he joined out the team of the
Xxxxx-Xxxxxxxx Laboratory of the Instute for Xxxxxxe Research (Moscow, Russia).
I would like to describe shortly some of Xxxxxx’s his activity
responsibilities he has have in our lab:
Hardware and software development
Xxxxxxx has participated in two space projects leaded by our lab:
- PGS instrument development onboard Xxxx-96 Russian spacecraft. Being a junior scientist
during PGS development he participated in operating tests and calibration and software
development for scientific data processing and analysis from space board as well. He has
also some responsibilities concerned hardware development of GRBM instrument environment.
- HEND instrument development, which is to be launched in XXXX by NASA Mars Surveyor
Orbiter. Here Xxxxxx continues to be responsible person for physical testing and
calibration for HEND instrument. This responsibility covers his the management of the
calibration tests activity itself and mathematical model calculation activity as well. He
also coordinates the data warehousing system development for scientific data and/or
calibration (testing) data. He participates also in operating tests and hardware
development activity.
Scientific data processing and analysis
- Xxxxx has analysed spectral properties of gamma-ray bursts based on data from Russian
– French APEX instrument. He applied some new statistical methods during this
investigation and some new results were obtained during this investigation. His diploma
work were based on this investigation which were marked in his high school as
"excellent". This work was also published in Astronomical Journal of Russian
Academy for Science.
- Another his investigation I would like to mention is the investigation of QPO phenomenon
(quasi – periodic scintillation) in power spectrum of A0535+262 transient. A few very
interesting results concerned binary transient activity were obtained during this
investigation. These results are to be published in very close time. This analysis was
made based on BATSE instrument data and in very close collaboration with BATSE team. Here
Xxxxxx shows a strong communication ability with very minor problems to communicate in
English.
- The present Xxxxxxx’s scientific activity concerns the afterglowing emission from the
gamma-ray bursts in gamma- rays and here Xxxxxxx obtained the results which were reported
on 5-th Huntsville Gamma – Ray Bursts symposium. These results will be also presented in
symposium proceedings and the enhanced investigation will be published as well.
In conclusion I would like to mention that based on scientific results and publication
Xxxxxx is preparing his Ph.D. thesis’s and he had a good opportunity to obtain this
degree in short time. I would like also to name that Dmitri participated in preparing
grant applications and some of his activity was supported by INTAS, NASA, Russian
Foundation and SOROS Foundation grants. A would like to mention also that Xxxxxx’s
valuable qualities include exceptional English language and communication ability, which
allows him to participate effectively in joint work with international colleagues and in
the scientific meetings, seminars and conferences as well. While an self-dependent
researcher Xxxxx is also a team player and is respected and esteemed by his colleagues. I
would like to remark on Xxxxxxxx’s exceptional intelligence and learning ability.
I recommend Xxxxxxx without hesitation as a valuable and promising young researcher.
Please do not hesitate to contact either me or Xxxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxxxx, Xxxxx's
immediate supervisor, at xxxxxxxxxxxx.
