Here's an alternative option that you could offer: the philathropist (as opposed to the misanthropist or masochist) version. Many people with a few too many $$$ *enjoy* helping people out. I should know - I used to do it myself, before I spent all my money on a part of Hawaii. Some people might actually *enjoy* a holiday in which they could see misery and *make a difference* for some of these poor slobs. I personally would enjoy that much more than a "schadenfreude" tour.

Do you really want to make a positive contribution?

Contrary to our declared position we sometimes do and encourage others to do good things.

We will be pleased to advise you how to make a contribution with your money, time, or skills. Naturally, we'll try to direct your contribution to our projects, or to people/organizations we care about.

Some examples:

• Helping our farming project www.rural-russia.narod.ru financially. The list of our needs is there somewhere.

• Helping us in applying for grants in connection to the above.

• Helping financially or by sending outdated laptops to the Staritsa Vestnik newspaper because in our deserted village we keep in touch with the civilized world though them (telephone, Internet),

• We welcome any help to the Staritsa orphanage, hospital, or school because we consider these to be under our patronage.

• In the spring and fall of 2003 we plan to do some tree-planting and could use your help.
